MIANSAI
by MICHAEL ANDREW SAIGER
Vintage-inspired jewelry
MIANSAI by Michael Andrew Saiger is an upscale line of jewelry that
meshes vintage style with wartime relics. Reflecting his personal connection
to all his designs, Michael combined his first, middle and last names
to call the collection MIANSAI.
His pieces turn remnants of war into wearable art. Says Michael, "Most
of my inspiration comes from objects I found at antique shows and auctions
around the world. I’ve also had a few things passed down from my mother,
who owns an antique shop." Most influential to his designs are bullets,
military pins, old coins and even model airplane parts. In his downtown
Miami studio, Michael reinvents history by forging these finds into 14K-gold
and sterling silver bracelets, necklaces, rings and cuff links. The entire
MIANSAI collection is made by hand to give each piece its own unique
look without losing the old-time feel of decades past.
Michael’s interest in collecting antiques developed at a young age.
When he reached adulthood he realized he could put his hobby to good
use. "Years back,” explains Michael, “I found a 38mm bullet while
jogging. I picked it up and rolled it around in my hand. I remember thinking
there was something beautiful and honest in its imperfect, weathered
look. Next thing I knew, I was envisioning how I could take that look
and recreate it."
After studying Sports Management at the University of Miami, traveling
the world and modeling professionally for five years, Michael fused
his life-long admiration for history's treasures with his entrepreneurial
skills and fashion sense. MIANSAI was born.
